The bolt was overly stiff due to cock on close mechanism (which none of the literature mentions, but the cocking indicator only sticks out when closing the bolt), and the only thing keeping you from over-opening the bolt is a tiny piece of spring-loaded metal that only worked 30% of the time. I read the reports about the flimsy mag release and stiff bolt, thought they were overblown, and ordered it sight unseen. View QuoteComing back to this, I actually had a Zephyr 2 for about a week. I want to throw a bipod on it but this is going to be my main deer rifle as well and it's already at 9lb from the factory, so I am trying to be careful about adding too much unnecessary weight to it. But from everything I've read over the years anyways, Steyr barrels are supposed to be some if not the best barrels made and they last forever. That plus that fact it is CHF should extend the life of it well beyond the 3,000 rounds the Creedmoor is typically rated at. I also like that the barrel (well, the whole gun) is nitrided. I love the cylindrical grooves on it as well. It definitely feels nicer than a Tikka which is considered the gold standard by many. I haven't handled a Sako in a long time, though, so I can't say for sure. If I am remembering right the closest comparison I can give is it feels similar in quality to a Sako. The action is the smoothest action I've felt on any factory bolt rifle, and I've shot the following: X-Bolts, Tikkas, Weatherby Mark V, etc. ![]() ![]() Picked it up a couple days ago from my FFL.
